Aphrodite Pandemos (Ancient Greek: Πανδημος, romanized: Pándēmos; “common to all the people”) occurs as an epithet of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. This epithet can be interpreted in different ways. In Plato’s Symposium, Pausanias of Athens describes Aphrodite Pandemos as the goddess of sensual pleasures, in opposition to Aphrodite Urania, or “the heavenly Aphrodite”. Another interpretation is that of Aphrodite uniting all the inhabitants of a country into one social or political body. In this respect she was worshiped at Athens along with Peitho (persuasion), and her worship was said to have been instituted by Theseus at the time when he united the scattered townships into one great body of citizens.
Dimitris Alexiou was born in Alepochori, Laconia, in 1949. He has lived and worked in Athens since 1963. He studied film directing. His texts have been published in numeral newspapers. He has translated Lucian’s Funeral Dialogues. His poems have been included in anthologies in Greece and abroad. Invited by the University of Illinois, USA in April 1983, he spoke there on the topic: “Contemporary Greek Poetry”. He is a member of the Writers’ Association.
Andreas Kambelas was born in Athens, 1964. He took painting classes at the workshop of Panos Sarafianos (1964-1966), and then at the Athens School of Fine Arts with Nikos Nikolaou (1966-1968). He studied ancient Greek art and attended liberal studies abroad. His work is in the field of expressionism, with compositions that have mainly historical, erotic and mythological content, with a dynamic handling of colors. He has also been involved in the decoration of interior and exterior spaces, the editing of publications, book illustrations, graphic arts, carpet design, and photography.
