Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908–2004) was a French photographer and one of the most influential figures in the history of photography. Often referred to as the father of modern photojournalism, Cartier-Bresson pioneered the genre of street photography and was a master of capturing what he called the “decisive moment”—a split second when the elements of a scene align perfectly to create a powerful and meaningful image. He captured some of the most significant moments of the 20th century with an unflinching eye for detail and a commitment to capturing the truth of life in its most unscripted form.
