Velika Planina (Big Pasture Plateau) is a high-altitude alpine plateau in Slovenia, located in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, near the town of Kamnik. It is known for its traditional herders’ settlement, stunning natural landscapes, and opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking and skiing. The plateau is famous for its unique wooden huts, built in a distinctive oval shape with shingled roofs, used by Slovene herders for centuries. Velika Planina offers breathtaking views, lush meadows, and well-marked hiking trails that attract visitors year-round. In winter, it becomes a popular skiing and snowshoeing destination. It remains one of Slovenia’s most picturesque and culturally rich destinations, offering a blend of nature, history, and local traditions.
Yugoslavia (lit. ’Land of the South Slavs’) was a country in Southeast and Central Europe that existed from 1918 to 1992. It came into existence following World War I, under the name of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes from the merger of the Kingdom of Serbia with the provisional State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, and constituted the first union of South Slavic peoples as a sovereign state, following centuries of foreign rule over the region under the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg monarchy.
