Maria Regkou (Rengou) – Thanasekou was a Greek artist. She was born and raised in wartime Thessaloniki. From the age of 12 she studied painting with her uncle Polykleitos Regkos. Later, in 1956, she studied fashion design for two years in Paris. She then settled in Athens. and worked in journalism (magazine layout and book editing). Regkou presented her first paintings in 1964. In 1974, at the Quantas gallery, she exhibited her work from 1968-1974. In 1972 Pyli Publications published Wilhelm Reich’s emblematic book Listen, Little Man!. The cover adorned a work by Maria Regkou. Since then, it has remained one of the most successful Greek covers of all time. In 1979, the artist published, at Frynos Publications, a small book entitled “Houses and World Views”, where she presented some of her paintings in black and white. Maria Regkou translated, wrote poems, and was the editor of many publications. She died in 2017.
