The magazine Sovietology was a monthly publication published in Greece by the journalist, writer and political analyst Georgios Georgalas during the period 1960-1964. This publication was an attempt to develop serious anti-communism in Greece, scientifically documented and ideologically structured, but always within the authoritarian framework of post-war Greece. Sovietology was compulsorily purchased by the Armed Forces and the Security Forces, a fact that underlines the importance attributed to it as a tool for information and education on issues related to communist ideology and practice. However, with the assumption of power by the Center Union, the magazine was abolished by the then Deputy Minister of the Presidency, Mylonas.
Georgios Georgalas was a Greek journalist, writer, and politician, best known for his role as the chief propagandist of the Greek military junta (1967–1974). Originally a member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), he later became a staunch anti-communist and founded the magazine Sovietology , which analyzed communist ideology from a critical perspective. During the dictatorship of Georgios Papadopoulos, Georgalas served as the government spokesperson, shaping much of the regime’s ideological messaging. After the fall of the junta in 1974, he briefly faced imprisonment but later re-emerged as a right-wing political commentator and author.
