Description
A rare, hand-signed and extensively dedicated first edition of 1944 Δεκέμβριος: Η Μάχη των Αθηνών (“Dekemvriana – The Battle of Athens”) by distinguished Greek Army officer Thrasyvoulos Tsakalotos. Published in Athens in 1969, this book provides a first-hand military perspective on the dramatic clashes that took place in Athens between 3 December 1944 and 11 January 1945, marking the opening phase of the Greek Civil War.
The narrative examines confrontations between EAM/ELAS forces and the Greek government backed by British troops, detailing the escalating violence after British orders to disarm resistance groups, including the mass demonstration on 3 December 1944. The events described in this work represent one of the earliest large-scale episodes of urban warfare in post-war Europe.
This particular copy is hand-signed and extensively dedicated by Tsakalotos, enhancing its historical and collector value, especially for enthusiasts of Greek military history and Cold War-era conflicts.
