Dimitris Maronitis, (1929 – 2016), was a Greek university professor, classical philologist, critic of modern Greek literature, translator of ancient Greek authors and essayist.

Dionysios Solomos (1798 – 1857) was a Greek poet, particularly known for writing the poem “Hymn to Freedom”, the first two stanzas of which became the National Anthem of Greece.
