Bartolomeo Borri (1842 – 1924) was a Corfiot photographer of Italian origin, born on the island of Cherso in Dalmatia, then belonging to Austria. He grew up in Trieste, where he probably learned the art of photography, and in 1869 he moved to Corfu where he opened a photographic studio on Kapodistriou Street, known as “Stabilimento Fotografico di B. Borri”. In 1875 he took part in the 3rd Athens Olympiad where he won a bronze medal. In 1878 he took part in the Paris International Exhibition with photographs of Corfu landscapes where he received praise. Alongside the portraits, he had been systematically involved in photographic snapshots of various views of the city of Corfu as well as the countryside of the island, making photo albums which he sold to tourists. In 1889 he took part in the Paris International Exhibition where he was awarded an Honorary Medal. The following year he partnered with his son Giuseppe, in the new company entitled: “B. Borri e figlio” and they took part in many international exhibitions. In 1912 he retired to Trieste, leaving the studio to his son. He died there in 1924 aged 84.
