A scarce original Greek archaeological and historical pamphlet on the ancient topography of Kos, published in 1922.
An interesting surviving example of the local antiquarian scholarship of the Dodecanese, written by Iakovos E. Zarraftis (Ιάκωβος Ε. Ζαρράφτης, 1853–1933), one of the most significant early scholars of the history, archaeology and folklore of Kos.
The work is entitled Κώϊα: Αρχαία τοποθεσία της Κω (Koia: Ancient Location of Kos) and forms part of Zarraftis’ broader Κώϊα project, devoted to documenting the island’s ancient sites, monuments, historical geography and cultural traditions.
Zarraftis’ writings remain of particular interest to researchers and collectors concerned with the antiquities and local history of Kos. Early locally printed editions such as this are especially appealing to collectors of Greek regional publications and historical ephemera.
