Photis Kontoglou (pen name of Photis Apostolelis; 1895 – 1965) was a Greek writer, painter and icon painter. Guided by his artistic pursuits of Byzantine and popular painting, but also by studying creations from earlier periods, such as the Fayoum portraits, he emerged with his work as a key supporter of the demand for the authenticity of Greek expression, while his contribution to the formation of the newest ecclesiastical painting.
Rallis Kopsidis (1929 – 2010) was a Greek painter and writer from Lemnos, Greece. His two books Kastro Iliokastro  and To Tetradio tou Gyrismu are illustrated by himself and set forth his childhood memories from Myrina, Lemnos, from the 1930s and 1940s. Rhallis Kopsidis and George Chochlidakis, who were inspired by the Macedonian school (11th-14th centuries) and the Cretan School (14th-17th centuries) painted around 1960, the Byzantine frescoes of the Chevetogne Abbey (Belgium).
