380.00

Description

An exceptionally rare example of Greek underground publishing:
“Ο Μικρός Δημοκράτης” (The Little Democrat), Issue No. 1—the only issue ever produced, circa 1975.

Created by Nikos Lyberopoulos (“Liber”) in collaboration with Nikos Platis, and published by Leonidas Christakis, this work is a significant artifact of early post-dictatorship print culture in Greece.

Produced immediately after the fall of the 1967–1974 military junta, the comic reflects the emergence of free political expression through satire, caricature, and countercultural aesthetics.

Overview

A subversive reinterpretation of the popular O Mikros Iros, the work is subtitled:

“Ο Πιτσιρίκας Φάντασμα στην Αντίσταση”
(The Ghost Kid in the Resistance)

Rather than WWII narratives, it addresses the recent junta period, employing sharp satire and visual symbolism.

The striking cover—a tank emerging from a television—serves as a powerful metaphor for propaganda and authoritarian control. Interior content includes satirical references to figures associated with the regime, including Dimitrios Ioannidis.
