An authentic original 1992 travel poster published by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO / E.O.T.), promoting the historic region of Macedonia, Greece.
This impressive large-format poster features a beautifully detailed photograph of the celebrated Stag Hunt Mosaic from the ancient city of Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great and one of the most important archaeological sites of the ancient Greek world.
Dating to the late 4th century BC, the mosaic depicts a dramatic hunting scene in which two youthful figures—traditionally identified as Alexander the Great and his close companion Hephaestion—pursue a stag with the assistance of a hunting dog. The composition is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of ancient Greek mosaic art, admired for its remarkable movement, realism, and technical sophistication.
Prominently displayed across the upper border is the famous ancient Greek inscription «ΓΝΩΣΙΣ ΕΠΟΗΣΕΝ» (“Gnosis made this”), recognised as the earliest surviving artist’s signature on a mosaic floor. This remarkable detail gives the poster exceptional appeal to collectors of archaeology, classical art, and ancient history.
Issued as part of the official Greek National Tourism Organization’s cultural heritage series, this original poster is both a striking decorative artwork and an authentic piece of Greek tourism history.
