Gabriel Destounis (1818-1895), son of Spyridon Destounis, was a professor of the Institute of Oriental Languages in St. Petersburg and of ancient Greek and Byzantine literature at the local university. Destounis also authored several historical works, such as On Klephts and Armatols of 1821 and Greek Heroic Hymns of Medieval Times.
