A rare and historically significant Greek publication documenting the Greek Civil War through the perspective of the National Army during the final stages of the conflict.
Η Μάχη της Ρούμελης (The Battle of Roumeli) by Michalis Peranthis was published in Athens by Saliveros around 1949, shortly after the decisive military operations that shaped the outcome of the Greek Civil War (1946–1949).
The work focuses on the battles fought in Central Greece (Roumeli), where the Greek National Army confronted the forces of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE). It describes the guerrilla attempts to occupy strategic urban centers and the subsequent military operations carried out by government forces.
The publication constitutes an important example of immediate postwar anti-communist political literature and wartime propaganda, reflecting the ideological climate of Greece during one of the most turbulent periods of its modern history.
Illustrated throughout, the book combines documentary, political, and military narrative elements and offers valuable insight into:
Greek Civil War history,
state propaganda,
postwar political discourse,
and Cold War ideological conflict in Southeastern Europe.
