Written by Dr. Dimitrios S. Zalouchos (1862–1927), identified as Director of the Poultry School of Athens, and published by the renowned Athens bookseller and publisher I. N. Sideris, this original booklet offers a fascinating insight into agricultural education and school-based practical instruction in the Kingdom of Greece at the beginning of the 20th century.
The publication was intended as a practical educational resource relating to the keeping and breeding of domesticated birds. It discusses poultry and other birds including chickens, roosters, turkeys, ducks, geese, pigeons, peacocks, pheasants and partridges, with practical information concerning breeding, feeding and management.
Particularly important is the official Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and Public Education approval, associated with Minister Ioannis D. Tsirimokos, demonstrating the publication’s connection with the educational system of the period.
