A highly collectible first edition of Τα Μυστικά του Βάλτου (The Secrets of the Swamp) by Pinelopi Delta, published in Athens by Estia in 1937.

Complete in two volumes and limited to only 3,000 copies, this important edition includes the scarce original folding map by Stefania Farkou attached to Volume I, as issued.

One of the landmark works of modern Greek literature, The Secrets of the Swamp is set around Lake Giannitsa during the Macedonian Struggle of the early 20th century and remains among the most influential Greek historical novels ever written.

The edition is richly illustrated by the distinguished Greek painter Dimitrios Biskinis (1891–1947), professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts and an important representative of idealistic and symbolist Greek painting influenced by Nikolaos Gyzis and Jugendstil aesthetics.

Pinelopi Delta (1874–1941) is widely regarded as one of the foundational figures of modern Greek literature, particularly in the fields of historical and children’s literature. Her works profoundly shaped Greek cultural memory and national consciousness through narratives combining history, ethics, identity, and education.

This attractive set is preserved in a contemporary half-leather binding and represents an increasingly scarce early edition of one of the defining works of 20th-century Greek literature.
