Yiorgos Manousakis (1914 – 2003) was a Greek award-winning (Academy of Athens, 1995) painter, engraver, photographer, writer, illustrator of school textbooks and naturalist-thinker. He belonged to the so-called artistic generation of the 1930s and mainly dealt with realistic depictions of landscapes and people, with intense colors. He enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in 1934 with teachers O. Argyros and K. Parthenis, while Yannis Kefallinos taught him engraving. On behalf of EOT (Greek National Tourist Organisation) he edited posters, while his works appeared in various publications of Emporiki Bank.
About the brochure: The German text refers to Greece’s rich traditional Folk Art i.e. the traditional costumes, weavings, lace and embroidery, pottery, wood carving, metalworking and gold and silver ware. The images depict (1821 hero) Katsantonis’ portrait by renowned artist Theofilos, embroidery from the island of Skyros and wood carving from Lesbos.
