This Photo Poster is Nr. 14 of a Series of Parthenon views that was produced for the German Market by EOT, the Griechische Zentrale für Fremdenverkehr (in German). The poster series was part of a broader campaign to attract tourists to Greece, especially after the political turmoil during the military junta (1967–1974). The posters show striking views of the Parthenon, the iconic temple on the Acropolis of Athens, often in different lighting conditions (e.g. sunset or in clear daylight and here at night).
After the end of the dictatorship and the return to democracy in 1974, Greek cultural policy played an important role in restoring a positive international image. The Parthenon was a central part of this, as it is considered a universal symbol of freedom and cultural heritage.
