Nikos Papoutsidis was born in Cairo in 1954. He lives and works in Athens. He studied Environmental Art and Design, Art and Art History in England at Bournemouth College of Art and Technology (1972-1978). He lived in Paris (1979-1984), where he collaborated with well-known galleries (La Hune Brenner, Andre Birren, etc.). He learned engraving from Alekos Fasianos at Michel Casse’s lithography studio. There he also met Yiannis Tsarouchis, in whose workshop he began his apprenticeship. He became friends with both of them, significantly influencing his life and artistic career.
Yannis Tsarouchis (Greek: Γιάννης Τσαρούχης; 1910 – 1989) was a Greek modernist painter and set designer who achieved international fame, and was “known in particular for his homoerotic subjects,” including soldiers, sailors, and nude males.
