The Straw Hat

Nikolaos Lytras (1883 – 1927) was a Greek modernist painter who specialized in portraits, still-lifes and landscapes. With his particular technique in relation to color Lytras introduced expressionism to Greece. His bright landscapes and rough-brushed portraits, works for which he received fierce polemic from supporters of the realist school, have nothing to envy from the works of corresponding European expressionists.
