RARE GREEK INDUSTRIAL PRINTING BLOCK – “Η ΝΙΚΗ” LEATHER FACTORY, ATHENS

A fascinating original piece of Greek industrial and printing history.

This vintage metal printing cliché / printing block, mounted on its original solid wooden base, carries the emblem and name of the historic Greek leather manufacturer:

«ΒΙΟΜΗΧΑΝΙΑ ΔΕΡΜΑΤΩΝ Η ΝΙΚΗ Α.Ε. – ΑΘΗΝΑΙ»

The metal matrix features a highly detailed winged Nike figure, together with the company’s lettering and decorative frame.

As visible in the photographs, the lettering and design are reversed/mirrored, confirming its function as a traditional printing matrix. Such blocks were used with printing presses to reproduce designs, company names, stationery, labels and other printed material.

The combination of the classical Nike figure, Greek lettering and industrial construction makes this an especially unusual surviving piece of 20th-century Greek commercial and printing history.
