Jean Tharaud (1877 – 1952) was a French writer. As a young man, he had been secretary to Maurice Barrès. He wrote books with his brother, Jérôme Tharaud, for over 50 years. In 1906, they won the Prix Goncourt for Dingley, the illustrious writer. Tireless travelers, the brothers traveled through many countries, Palestine, Ottoman Syria, Iran, Morocco, Romania, Germany (in 1933), Italy (in 1938), Indochina and Ethiopia and bring back from their travels the material for reports, novels or works with historical or sociological pretensions
