Blätter für die Kunst (Journal for the Art s) was a literary magazine founded in 1892 by Stefan George and edited by Carl August Klein. Initially, it pursued the aesthetic program of l’art pour l’art (art for art), conveyed to a deliberately limited circle of readers. Stefan George intended for Blätter für die Kunst to be a vehicle for what he termed, the new art, which wanted to supersede literary movements within German literature that either saw poetry as a pleasant diversion or a naturalistic and realistic criticism, while also drawing upon the ideas of the French Symbolists.
