When, on November 27, 1848, the Swiss people adopted their federal constitution, it was first necessary to create the necessary premises for the Legislative Assembly, for the executive authority and for the administration as a whole. The city of Bern, as the seat of the federal authorities, undertook to construct a building for these authorities. She opened a competition, following which the architect Studer, in Bern, was responsible for developing the final project and constructing the building. The central Parliament Building, built according to plans drawn up by architect Hans Wilhelm Auer between 1894 and 1902, completed the interconnected three-part complex that we see today.
