About the book: This rare publication was compiled during Theodorakis’ political exile in Europe during the Greek junta (1967–1974). It features his reflections, political analysis, and speeches during a time of great turmoil in Greece. After international pressure allowed him to leave for Paris in 1970, Theodorakis called for unity among the Greek people and advocated for cultural revolution as a path to political freedom. His inscription in this copy to fellow artist Eliza Hanioti adds further historical and collectible value to this unique item.
Mikis Theodorakis (1925–2021) was one of Greece’s most celebrated composers and political activists. Known globally for scoring Zorba the Greek, Z, and Serpico, his work combined cultural influence with unflinching political conviction. A recipient of numerous international honors including the BAFTA Award and Lenin Peace Prize, Theodorakis remained a powerful voice for democracy and national unity throughout his life.
