About the Book
This small but historically significant publication gathers the wise words, anecdotes, and battlefield sayings of King Constantine I of Greece (1868–1923) during the Balkan Wars. It also includes a patriotic poem by Aristomenis Proveleggios (1850–1936), in which Constantine is celebrated as the modern “Bulgar Slayer,” an allusion to Byzantine Emperor Basil II, reflecting the King’s leadership and heroism in Greece’s victories.
Historical Context
The Balkan Wars (1912–1913) were decisive conflicts that expanded Greek territory to include Macedonia, Epirus, and Crete, doubling the country’s size. Constantine I, as Commander-in-Chief of the Hellenic Army, played a key role in these victories, which elevated him to near-legendary status at the time.
Collectible Value
An authentic piece of Greek history, this rare publication is a firsthand patriotic tribute to King Constantine I, published during his lifetime. A remarkable addition for collectors of Balkan Wars history, Greek monarchy memorabilia, or early 20th-century political literature.
