About the Book

Liologos is a one-act dramatic play written by Stratis Papanikolas (1894–1952) as a tribute to the hardworking olive harvesters of Lesbos, who labored through the harsh island winters.
The text is written in the unique Agiasos dialect, offering a rare literary example of regional linguistic tradition.

To facilitate understanding, Papanikolas includes linguistic notes and vocabulary explanations, making the work valuable not only as literature but also as a document of local speech and culture.

The drama was performed in 1939 by amateur actors from Agiasos during a traditional folk festival, highlighting the strong connection between the play and the island’s communal heritage.
