About This Edition:
Although originally written in 1926, Λαμπάδες (Candles) was not published until 1948. This elegiac collection was inspired by the untimely death of Foti, the 16-year-old daughter of Drosinis’s close friend Ekaterini Evlampiou Typaldou.
Structured as a series of sonnets, the poems meditate on death, remembrance, and the passage of time, revealing Drosinis’s deep philosophical sensibility and poetic mastery.
The illustrations by Dimitrios Biskinis enrich the volume’s emotional tone with symbolic and spiritual imagery, echoing both ancient Greek and Christian aesthetics.
About the Author:
Georgios Drosinis was one of the most important figures of modern Greek literature and a leading member of the New Athenian School (Generation of the 1880s). His poetry reflects clarity, simplicity, and deep emotional resonance, often inspired by Greek nature and moral reflection.
About the Illustrator:
Dimitrios Biskinis (1891–1947) was a Greek painter associated with the academic and Jugendstil tradition. His works often explored symbolic, allegorical, and religious themes, harmonizing with the refined tone of Drosinis’s poetry.
A rare signed and numbered edition, bringing together two major figures of Greek art and literature. A valuable piece for collectors of Greek poetry, literary first editions, and Hellenic cultural heritage.
