The “ModernStarts” exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York was a landmark event that took place from October 7, 1999, to March 14, 2000. It was the first phase of the “MoMA2000” series, which was a trilogy of exhibitions aimed at reinterpreting and showcasing the museum’s vast collection of modern art. The series offered a fresh perspective on how art, architecture, design, photography, film, and sculpture developed during the 20th century. The exhibition was widely praised for its ambitious scope and intellectual rigor. Critics noted that it offered an accessible yet thought-provoking introduction to modern art for the 21st century.
Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky (1866 – 1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist. Kandinsky is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction in western art. His “Panel for Edwin R. Campbell No. 1” (1914) is part of a series of four large abstract paintings created for the New York apartment of Edwin R. Campbell, a co-founder of the Chevrolet Motor Company. These works are collectively known as the “Campbell Panels” and represent an important moment in the evolution of Kandinsky’s abstract art.Kandinsky is widely regarded as one of the first artists to create purely abstract paintings, and the Campbell Panels are a significant example of his mature style.
