Titοs Patrikios (Athens 1928) is a Greek poet, prose writer, honorary doctor of the University of Patras and translator of the first post-war generation. He is considered – by general admission – the most important living Greek poet, beloved and widely read by all ages, with a rich body of work, a very clear spirit and essential language. In 1994 he was honored with the Special State Prize for Literature.
About the book: In The Lions’ Gate, Patrikios returns to the themes of historical memory, individual and collective experience, the decay of time and the continuity of life. The title of the book, which refers to the famous Lions’ Gate in Mycenae, functions symbolically, recalling the past, the heritage and the fate of man in History. Patrikios’ poetry is characterized by sobriety, philosophical disposition and a mature thoughtfulness that captures human experience in a simple but expressive way.
