Alekos Fassianos (Greek: Αλέκος Φασιανός, 1935 – 2022) was a renowned Greek painter. He gained recognition for his distinctive style, which was characterized by immediacy and a deliberate departure from standardized painting techniques
Those Greek children who found themselves as students in primary schools in the 1980s had even greater luck. To get to know Alekos Fassianos through his cover of the fourth issue of the 6th grade language book, which was introduced to schools in 1983. An image that will remain etched, since the image delivered by the great creator is extremely expressive and in from our humble point of view and without knowing its exact inspiration, with the aesthetic imprint of the ear and intense gaze, it mobilizes the student’s curiosity, while at the same time showing him that the eyes and ears are his tools for the acquisition of knowledge.
In this context, 22 issues were created for the primary language books with the participation of a total of 20 artists, with the work of Alekos Fasianos adorning, as we mentioned above, the fourth issue of the sixth grade language. Perhaps this is not at all accidental, since children would see the play in the final and most mature phase of their Primary school apprenticeship. The remaining three were designed by the also important painters Ralli Kopsidis, Dimitris Mytaras and Minos Argyrakis. Fassianos and the rest of the artists participate in this way in the renewal of Greek education, while at the same time they leave a very important one, since the cover of a textbook, especially of the language, is not only an image within it, but the image with which the student becomes more familiar with his daily life as a student.
