About the Author:


Maria Ralli (ca. 1902–1975) was an influential Greek poet and prose writer, and a prominent figure in mid-20th-century Greek literature. Born Maria Konstantopoulou, she was the sister of acclaimed actress Katina Paxinou and musician Varvara Konstantopoulou. She married politician Pericles Rallis, from whom she took her surname.
Ralli debuted in 1932 with Women’s Words and went on to publish several poetry collections, short stories, and novels. She served as General Secretary of the National Opera’s Board and the Greek Writers’ Society, and received the Greek State Prize for Prose in 1965 for her collection From One to Another.
