In addition to the Greek communities of Alexandria and Cairo, there was also the organised Greek community of Port Said, founded in 1870. Half of the Greeks of Port Said came from the island of Kasos. The prosperity of the community is attested by the publication of newspapers. In Port Said, as early as 1889, the weekly Greek newspaper Syndesmos (Link), I Phoni tou Laou (The People’s Voice), was published in 1903, O Kirikas (The Herald) in 1905, I Proodos  (The Progress) in 1906, the newspaper NEA IHO (New Echo) in 1912 and of course the I Phoni tis Kasou (The Voice of Kasos) in 1922.

About the book: This rare romantic short story was published by the newspaper Nea Iho.
