“Albanie Aujourd’hui” was a political and informational magazine published in French in Tirana, Albania, from 1972 to 1990. The magazine served as a medium to disseminate Albania’s political perspectives and developments to a French-speaking audience. The Cover of issue Nr. 3 (58) from 1981 pictures Enver Hoxha during the May Day Parade of 1981 with two representatives of the University of Tirana after having offered him a bouquet with red carnations. This issue also includes an article by Petro Dode, a prominent Albanian politician, on the economic and social progress of the country. The magazine typically features articles on Albania’s political stance, economic progress, cultural initiatives, and international relations. In 1981, Albania was under the leadership of Enver Hoxha, adhering to a strict communist ideology. The country maintained a policy of self-reliance and isolation, distancing itself from both Western and Eastern blocs. Publications like “Albanie Aujourd’hui” were instrumental in presenting the nation’s official narratives and achievements to the outside world.

Enver Halil Hoxha (1908 – 1985) was an Albanian communist revolutionary and politician who was the leader of Albania from 1944 until his death in 1985. He was the First Secretary of the Party of Labor of Albania from 1941 until his death, a member of its Politburo, chairman of the Democratic Front of Albania, and commander-in-chief of the Albanian People’s Army. He was the twenty-second prime minister of Albania from 1944 to 1954 and at various times was both foreign minister and defense minister of the country.

Petro Dode, (1924 – date of death unknown) was a prominent Albanian politician affiliated with the Party of Labour of Albania. He served as the Chairman of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania from 1987, to 1990. Throughout his political career, Dode held various significant positions. He was a member of the People’s Assembly from the sixth to the eleventh legislative terms, spanning from 1966 to 1991. Following the downfall of Abdyl Këllezi, Dode was appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers on September 1, 1975, a role he maintained until January 14, 1982. Concurrently, he chaired the State Planning Commission from September 1, 1975, to November 23, 1982.

Communist Albania, officially the People’s Republic of Albania from 1946 until 1976, then as the People’s Socialist Republic of Albania PSR (Albanian: Republika Popullore Socialiste e Shqipërisë) from 1976 to 1991, and as the Republic of Albania from 1991 to 1992, was the communist state in Albania from 1946 to 1991. It succeeded the Democratic Government of Albania (1944–1946). During this time period, the country was ruled mainly by Enver Hoxha and the Party of Labor of Albania who ruled Albania by establishing a Stalinist, and later Hoxhaist, style of state administration and adhering to policies which stressed national unity and self-reliance. This period from 1946 to 1985 is referred to as Hoxhaist Albania, the Hoxhaist regime, or simply the Hoxha regime
