The magazine “Greek Photography” was the official publication of the Hellenic Photographic Society (E.F.E.), which was published continuously from July 1954 to January 1993. During these 39 years, the magazine hosted important works by Greek photographers on its pages, constituting a unique point of reference for the development of photography in Greece.
The Hellenic Photographic Society (E.F.E.) was founded in 1952 as a non-profit association and is the oldest artistic photographic organization in Greece. Its purpose is to promote and develop photography and video as means of artistic expression, as well as to create and promote works of art in all forms and trends, through the diversity of its members. E.F.E. has contributed significantly to the consolidation of photographic art in Greece, organizing exhibitions, competitions and other events that promote photography and amateur cinema as arts of a high artistic level.
Photokina is a trade fair held in Europe for the photographic and imaging industries. It is the world’s largest such trade fair. The first Photokina was held in Cologne, Germany, in 1950, and since 1966 it has been held biennially in September at the Koelnmesse Trade Fair and Exhibition Center in Deutz. The final Photokina under the then-current biennial cycle took place in 2018. Initially, the promoters planned to start a new annual cycle in 2019, with future shows to be held in May, but they later decided not to begin the new annual cycle until 2020. The worldwide outbreak of the Coronavirus disease 2019 and its effect on the imaging industry made Koelnmesse decide to cancel both Photokina 2020 and Photokina 2021.
