József Harrach (1848 – 1899) music esthete, music historian, teacher. He obtained a teacher’s degree and a doctorate in humanities in the Hungarian capital. From 1873 he was a real school teacher in Budapest. In 1888, he was appointed as a teacher of poetics, music pedagogy, music history and music aesthetics at the National Academy of Music and secretary of the institute. He raised the idea of nationalizing music teaching in Hungary and setting up public music secondary schools alongside the Academy of Music. In addition, József Harrach wrote music-related reviews for Pesti Napló for 15 years.
