About the magazine:
This rare Greek literary magazine was published during the final year of the Greek military junta (dictatorship) and became a landmark of anti-dictatorial intellectual resistance. It ran for only 7 issues between March and September 1973, functioning as a platform for literature, criticism, and ideas.
Edited by Alexandros Kotzias, D.N. Maronitis, and Alexandros Argyriou, and backed by publisher Nana Kallianesi of Kedros Editions, it featured major voices of Greek letters. Its first issue even led to the arrest of Maronitis and subsequent imprisonment of several contributors (P. Zannas, D. Tsatsos, G. Pesmazoglou).
The title “Η Συνέχεια” references the poetic collections of Manolis Anagnostakis (“Η Συνέχεια I–III”, 1954–1962). Anagnostakis himself was part of its editorial circle, linking the magazine to his vision of literature as both resistance and dialogue.
Significance:
-
An essential piece of Greek literary and political history, born during censorship and political unrest.
-
Closely tied to earlier resistance publications like “18 Κείμενα” (1970) and “Νέα Κείμενα” (1971).
-
Features contributions by leading Greek intellectuals of the 1970s, reflecting both aesthetic and political engagement.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with age-related wear consistent with its age. Please review photos for details.
A rare complete run of all 7 issues – a must-have for collectors of Greek literature, intellectual history, and resistance-era publications.
