About the Artist:

Anastasios Alevizos (1914–1985), known as Tassos, was one of Greece’s most important engravers and printmakers. A student of the celebrated teacher Kefallinos at the School of Fine Arts in Athens, Tassos developed a distinct style characterized by strong contrasts, expressive lines, and deep social symbolism.
His works often reflect themes of resistance, sacrifice, and human dignity, influenced by the political and cultural struggles of 20th-century Greece.

He studied and exhibited internationally — in Rome, Paris, Florence, the USSR, France, Japan, and the USA — and remains a central figure in the history of modern Greek engraving.
