About the Work:

This landmark publication by Eugenios Voulgaris—a towering figure of the Modern Greek Enlightenment—bridges natural philosophy and theology, presenting key scientific developments to a Greek audience.
Commissioned and funded by the Zosimades Brothers, prominent benefactors of the Greek nation, it was distributed freely to Greek scholars and later officially circulated by the fledgling Greek government (1832).

Voulgaris sought to harmonize philosophy and Orthodox theology, asserting that natural order reflects divine wisdom. His work represents a pivotal moment in the intellectual history of Greece, blending Aristotelian tradition with Enlightenment science.

About the Author:

Eugenios Voulgaris was an Orthodox Archbishop, polymath, and educator who contributed to virtually every discipline: philosophy, theology, mathematics, physics, astronomy, linguistics, and classical studies. A student of Methodios Anthrakites, he became a central figure in the Greek Enlightenment, editing and translating key works, advocating secular education, and appealing to Catherine II of Russia for the liberation of Greece.
