Aristotelis Tzannetos – Τα Προσφυγικά Λείψανα και η Εθνική Τράπεζα της Ελλάδος (Abandoned or

Exchangeable Estates and The National Bank of Greece)

Τεύχος 1ον  (First Issue) – Thessaloniki, 1923/1926

34 pages | Paper cover | 20 cm × 15 cm

This is a rare original 1923/1926 publication by Aristotelis Tzannetos, former MP for Kallipolis and legal advisor to the National Bank of Greece.

Printed in Thessaloniki, it focuses exclusively on the region of Macedonia, with a particular emphasis on Thessaloniki, during the turbulent years following the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the Population Exchange (Lausanne, 1923).

Historical Context – Macedonia & Thessaloniki (1922–1926)

After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in the region, Macedonia — and especially Thessaloniki — became the central stage for:

  • the departure of Muslims who retained Turkish citizenship,

  • the arrival and settlement of Greek Orthodox refugees,

  • the redistribution and administration of abandoned Muslim properties,

  • the legal and economic restructuring of newly Greek-held lands.

The National Bank of Greece (Εθνική Τράπεζα) was entrusted with managing these properties, evaluating them, handling compensations, and reallocating assets to refugee families.

This booklet analyzes these processes as they occurred specifically in the Macedonian territories.
