Mimis Fotopoulos (1913-1986) was one of the most important Greek actors of theatre and cinema, known for his natural talent in comedy as well as for his dramatic performances.

The theatrical performance Don Camillo was presented by the Mimis Fotopoulos troupe during the 1959-1960 theatrical season, with a premiere on October 16, 1959 at the Mimis Fotopoulos Theater (Alfa) in Athens. The play, written in 1958 by Sotiris Patatzis (inspired by the humorous stories of the Italian writer Giovanni Guareschi but creating his own plot and characters for Mimis Fotopoulos), is a comedy set in an Italian city, where mayor Flouratos, of the Christian Democratic Party, is running for re-election against the left-wing mayoral candidate, Pepone. The play was directed by Giorgos Theodosiadis, while the sets and costumes were designed by Giorgos Anemoyiannis. Mimis Fotopoulos played the leading role of Don Camillo, with Giorgos Damasiotis as Pepone and Eleni Hatziargyri as the female lead. The performance was a great artistic success, marking a significant milestone in Mimis Fotopoulos’ career.
