Ioannis Metaxas (1871–1941) was a Greek military officer and politician who became a prominent figure in Greek history as the Prime Minister and dictator of Greece from 1936 until his death in 1941. His leadership during the early stages of World War II, particularly his role in resisting the Italian invasion of Greece, is often remembered as a pivotal moment in modern Greek history. In April 1941, after Mussolini’s failure, Germany invaded Greece (Operation Marita). Metaxas died on January 29, 1941, just months before the German occupation, leaving King George II and his government in exile.
The German occupation of Greece ended in October 1944. What followed was a period of political instability, social division, and eventually, the Greek Civil War (1946–1949). That is why the agenda is used between 1944 and early 1946.
