About the Author
Jeanne Stephanopoli was a pioneering Greek journalist and historian — the first female student at a Greek university. She worked for Le Messager d’Athènes and became known for her writing on Greek politics and culture.
In 1912, under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stephanopoli published Les îles de l’Égée, a groundbreaking study of the Aegean Islands’ privileges and history. Her research brought international attention to the Italian occupation of the Dodecanese and helped popularize the name “Dodecanese” for the island group.
