Original and historically important first edition of L’Armée Grecque et la Victoire d’Orient (The Greek Army and the Victory in the East), published in Paris in 1919 by Berger-Levrault, shortly after the end of the First World War.

This rare French-language publication documents the role of the Greek Army in the Macedonian Front and the Balkan campaign, featuring 49 unpublished wartime photographs and two original maps, offering valuable visual and documentary material from a crucial yet often overlooked theater of World War I.

 

Historical Context

Greece formally entered World War I on the side of the Entente following the establishment of the Provisional Government of National Defence in Thessaloniki (1916) and the return of Eleftherios Venizelos to power in 1917. 

Despite limited resources and internal political divisions, Greece succeeded in organizing a new army that eventually reached eleven divisions.

The book covers:

  • The Macedonian Front (Strymon River to Northern Epirus)

  • The participation of Greek units alongside French, British, Serbian, Italian, and Russian forces
