About the Author
Konstantinos Davakis (1897–1943) was a distinguished Greek military officer and strategist in WWII. He is remembered for organizing the Greek defensive lines during the Battle of Pindus, which led to a key Italian defeat in the Greco-Italian War of 1940. Beyond his battlefield achievements, he authored several important works on military history and armored warfare and served as an instructor at military academies. Arrested by the Italians in 1942 for suspected resistance activity, he tragically perished when the POW transport ship Città di Genova was torpedoed in 1943.
About the Book
In Battle Tanks, Davakis emerges as one of the pioneers of modern Greek military thought. He advocated for the mechanization of the army, the use of tanks as decisive offensive weapons, and the close cooperation between infantry, armored divisions, and the Air Force—concepts far ahead of his time in 1928.
A rare and important work of Greek military history, highly collectible for those interested in early tank warfare, Hellenic military studies, and WWII history.
