About the Work:
This rare and detailed publication was produced by the Army General Staff of the Ministry of Military Affairs in Athens. It forms part of the official multi-volume War Report, the authoritative account of Greece’s military involvement in the Balkan Wars (1912–1913).
This volume, Volume Γ΄1, contains extensive supplementary documents and analyses, including operational data, reports, statistics, and firsthand military material, providing an indispensable resource for understanding the campaigns and the broader geopolitical context of the Balkan Wars.
Historical Context – The Balkan Wars (1912–1913):
The Balkan Wars marked a decisive turning point in modern Greek and Balkan history.
-
In the First Balkan War (1912–1913), Greece, Serbia, Montenegro, and Bulgaria fought together against the Ottoman Empire, successfully driving it from most of its European territories.
-
In the Second Balkan War (1913), Bulgaria, dissatisfied with the territorial division, turned against its allies but was decisively defeated, also facing attacks from Romania and the Ottoman Empire.
As a result, Greece expanded significantly, annexing Thessaloniki, Epirus, and Crete, nearly doubling its territory and population. The conflicts also destabilized the region and set the stage for World War I.
A rare and significant military publication, offering scholars, historians, and collectors a primary source on the campaigns and strategy of the Greek Army during the Balkan Wars.
