Dimosthenis Voutiras (1872 – 1958) was one of the most important Greek short story writers and prose writers of the Greek literature of the interwar period. In his works he mainly describes the adventures of poor people, the marginalized and the outcasts, who, after all, fascinated him. Several critics have characterized him as the Maxim Gorky of Greece. Many literary contemporaries were influenced by his work.
