Maurice Carême (1899 – 1978) was a Belgian francophone poet, best known for his simple writing style and children’s poetry. He was one of the founders of the Journal des Poètes in 1931. In 1972 he was named Prince en Poésie of Paris. Carême published more than eighty collections of poems, novels, stories, essays and translations. His works served as models for films and were set to music by numerous composers.
