Dimitris Liatsos was a dedicated chronicler of this region. Beyond this 1960 volume, he is well-known for his book “The Blockade of Kokkinia”, which specifically details the Nazi atrocities of 1944. His work is considered essential for understanding the working-class identity and refugee history of the Piraeus suburbs. Early editions of Liatsos’ works are valued for their historical importance and connection to the Greek Resistance and refugee history. This volume is both a documentary source and a cultural artifact of post-war Greece.
